3 Reasons Why I Wouldn’t Buy The Apple Watch Or New MacBook

Don’t fall into Apple’s perfect product design trap!

If there is any one time that Apple both surprises and disappoints its ever growing group of fans, it would be now. In Apple’s latest product launch yesterday, the new MacBook and the long anticipated Apple Watch were introduced to the ever growing group of Apple-fanatics.

There is no doubt about Apple’s ability to design and craft these beauties. If put into perspective, the product design of MacBook and Apple Watch would be the crème de la crème of high fashion models. However, there is doubt that Apple might just be losing its cutting edge technology and overall attraction.

The New MacBook

The perfect must have gadget for all existing MacBook users and soon-to-be MacBook users! Have I commented on the gorgeous product design? Apple is launching the new MacBook in three different colours – Space grey, gold and silver. At just 13.1mm at its thickest point and weighing a mere 920g, which makes the new MacBook even thinner and lighter than the MacBook Air! How they have kept it so light you may ask? Simple, Apple took out the cooling system! Easy peasy.

The new MacBook is equipped with Apple’s signature super sharp and brilliant retina display, Intel Core M Processor, 8GB RAM, 9 hours of battery life and will run on the latest X Yosemite operating system. Its track pad is also something worth mentioning. Built with the new Force Touch track pad technology, this allows users to click anywhere and features haptic feedback that provides for a responsive feel.

On the flip side, there are only minimal ports for USB access – Apple’s not-so-subtle manner of making its consumers buy their accessories.

Price: Starting from USD$1299 to USD$1599

Launch Date: Friday 10th April 2015

Where: Apple online store and authorised Apple resellers

3 Reasons To Why Not:

  • One built in USB port is definitely not enough for regular use (you are however welcome to purchase the add-on accessory from Apple).
  • For the butter finger consumers, this might not be the perfect gadget for you. It is built to be as slim as possible, ruggedness is not its middle name.
  • It is expensive. With its price tag, you could easily purchase other laptops with better all-round specifications – Although this means not having this beauty as your arm candy. :(

Apple Watch

It looks gorgeous, tracks your fitness, alerts you of notifications and has three different styles to choose from, so what is my problem with the Apple Watch?

Everyone else has done it so what makes Apple so special? I have asked myself that so many times, I have literally lost count. The functions of the Apple Watch are approximately the same or even less stunning than those which are already in the market; Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and Motorola’s Moto 360.

Yes, the rumours that you have heard are true. The Apple Watch Edition is made with 18k rose or yellow gold alloy (apparently twice as hard as standard gold), has really nice curves, retina display that is protected by sapphire glass, comes with a leather band and it goes for a whooping USD$10 000. Let us put this into perspective for you. That is a Rolex, a few bullions of gold, you may still have some cash left over for a fancy dinner and the cab fare home.

On another note, thank you Apple for creating the perfect gadget for the young and old frat and sorority types out there.

Price: Starting from USD$349 to USD$10 000

Launch Date: Friday 24th April 21015

Where: Not in Singapore but in nine other countries - Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK and the US.

3 Reasons To Why Not:

  • It is ridiculously expensive!
  • Only pairs with iPhones – Cramps your style while locking you in to be a devoted Apple-fanatic user forever.
  • This product technology is rather dated! There are more than a dozen other technology companies that have already done this like months ago.
