We speak to local Singaporean celebrity Benjamin Kheng, on his top picks this Father’s Day
Talent and good looks, are the two things that local Singaporean celebrity Benjamin Kheng is not short of. Benjamin was first exposed to media in the form of producing and presenting radio shows at a young age of 17. His bag of talents include being a theatrical actor, performing with local folk-pop quartet The Sam Willows that he co-founded, a show host, just to name a few.
We catch up with Benjamin on gifting ideas for Father’s Day and the gadget he really wishes to be invented one day.
First thing’s first. What three gadgets do you think are hot this coming Father’s Day?
1. Logitech PowerShell – it’s an attachable gaming controller for your
iPhone. No self-respecting father has the time of day to slave away on an XBOX or PS4, so why not take your gaming on the go? Rubber surfaces make it easier to hold, and looks real sleek.
2. Nest Learning Thermostat – This little gadget, attached to your house wall, not only keeps track of household appliances, but brings to the table a humidity sensor (to hook up to your humidifier / dehumidifier), Wi-Fi radio and options on how to reduce your house’s carbon print.
3. Misfit Wearables Shine – Dads need to get fit, hence the need of a fitness tracker. This one is compact, stylish, and can be worn in a multitude of ways. Plus a 4 month battery life. Sold.
Talking about gifting for Fathers, if you could get any gadget for your Father, which would it be and why?
A wife translator
My dad sits in a lot of meetings, and likes writing just as much as typing things out. The Livescribe Echo Smartpen is this fantastic writing device that allows you to record audio while taking notes. You can then save and share these notes to your compatible devices. It’s pretty neat, and probably the ultimate tool for the on-the-go journalist.
Comparing the role of being a Father say two decades ago, how do you think Father’s now a days differ?
The Father today is definitely more urbanised and technologically-savvy. The elbow grease has turned into data space. Most fatherly vices have turned into digital entities – soccer streaming, gaming, gambling, etc. They’re more up to date with social media for sure – my dad is slowly but surely conquering every conceivable platform. Instagram is the last frontier. Please, don’t join Instagram, Dad.
Let’s say you have all the resources in the world, what is the one gadget that you think should be invented to help all Fathers out?
The Wife Translator. Let’s make it happen folks!
