Will Apple change the world?
The blood bath for Smartwatches this year has but just
Pebble is renowned for
it. Samsung has done it; three times to be exact. Apple has just joined in the
fun. With all the tech companies coming up with a wearable watch device, which is
the best out of all the rest?
Tear apart the basics of having the ease of being notified
by a Smartwatch and being able to respond to notifications, what other traits
do these Smartwatches have?
This is our take on the Smartwatch war. We put Pebble’s
Steel, Samsung’s Gear S and the Apple Watch to the ultimate face off!
What started out as a project on Kickstarter has now
materialised into something so much more. This is Pebble’s second Smartwatch
and it has so far received rave reviews from tech experts. Pebble has moved
away from the plasticky chassis and produced Steel. Like what its name suggests,
Steel is made with premium watch components like milled stainless steel and reinforced
with Corning Gorilla Glass; spelling durability and perfect for the butter
The Steel has one of the longest battery life for any
Smartwatch thanks to its
display, a single full charge can last anything between five to seven days of
usage. In addition to that, the e-ink display means that reading notifications
under direct sunlight is no longer a pain or glaring for your eyes.
3 Things I Like:
- Long battery life
- Easy on the wallet
- Compatible with any Android or Apple device
Samsung Gear S
Samsung is known for its Galaxy and Note line of
Smartphones, but did you know that Samsung actually has a line of Smartwatches?
Three to be exact. The coolest and sexiest looking of the lot would be the
Samsung Gear S. Its design bears a close resemblance to Franck Muller’s iconic
watch design, except this comes with a whole range of additional techy
This features a two inch curved Super AMOLED display that
would fit snuggly on your wrist and provide a super sharp display. Other
specifications include 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity allowing the user
to not only reply messages but be connected to their social media account and with
over 1,000 apps available to suit every wimp and need possible.
3 Things I Like:
- Available in a three different colours.
- Large two inch display
- Eye candy
Price: The Gear S
retails for S$498, accessories start from S$38
After months of waiting the Apple Watch was finally launched
a few days ago; which is both a shocker and also a disappointment. For more on
why it is such a disappointment, read on
However, there are also some really nice traits of the Apple Watch that deserve
Firstly, the display. The colours are vibrant and the images
sharp, there is nothing that comes quite close to such brilliant colours
without causing too much of a glare. Secondly, the fitness tracker. It gives
you an overview of your entire day’s activity, shows your daily progress and
motivates you to hit your desired target in one image. Lastly, the Apple
Watches comes in two different sizes, the 38mm and the 42mm and in three
different styles to fit any lifestyle or budget.
3 Things I Like:
- Comes in different sizes and colours
- Retina Display
- It is gorgeous. Enough said.
