Strap, Tap And Ride

Get ready to experience a
different way to pay for your transport fares in Singapore with this innovative
wearable

Singapore’s
Land Transport Authority (LTA) has teamed up with Singtel, Sony, EZ-Links, NETS
and TransitLink to test trial an ingenious public transport fare payment
system.

The
trial consists of 200 commuters and is currently underway. Participants are each
issued with Sony SmartBands that are equipped with Near Field Communication
(NFC) technology and encoded with a digital CEPAS card – which will provide
frictionless payments when taking public transport. This six month trial has
already begun and will cease on 29February 2016. If the
trial is a success, we can kiss EZ-Link cards goodbye for good!

Checking
your stored value in the SmartBand is also easy. The band has an in-built Bluetooth
feature that will allow you to connect with the Singtel mWallet application. This
application will allow you to check on your balance on-the-go, so you no longer
have to rely on memory, or make that extra trip to a top-up machine just to
check on your balance or transactions anymore.

The
Sony SmartBand also doubles up as a wearable which is able to keep track of
your daily activities and sleep quality. The measurements recorded by the band can
be monitored via a companion mobile application.

Keep
a watchful eye on fellow commuters in Singapore for a chance to check out this
really nifty wearable!
