Possible New Tekken Game Teased At EVO 2022, Street Fighter 6 Shows Off Latest Character Designs, And Bridget Returns To Guilty Gear Strive (With A Surprise)

A new Tekken game could be heading our way.

This trailer was unveiled after the Tekken 7 Grand Finals at EVO 2022, showing the iconic cutscene of Kazuya Mishima throwing his father, Heihachi Mishima, off a cliff.

The cutscene zooms onto Kazuya’s face, and quickly morphs from the 1994 PlayStation version to a realistic-looking version of the character before the words “Get Ready” flash across the screen.

Tekken’s Game Director Katsuhiro Harada was at the event and did not elaborate on the tease but it was still enough to send fans into a tizzy.

The last Tekken game was released for consoles back in 2015.

The Global Finals for the Tekken World Tour will happen in early February next year so I expect that we should get more details about the next Tekken game by then.

Tekken wasn’t the only game to show off something new – Capcom took the opportunity to introduce its latest character designs for Street Fighter 6, featuring the lovingly sadistic Juri and new joiner Kimberly.

Capcom has described Kimberly as a “spunky new ninja”, albeit one that fights with spray cans.

She’s also the first playable African-American woman in Street Fighter history

SF6 launches next year.

Developer Arc System Works also confirmed that classic yo-yo wielding fighter Bridget was coming to Guilty Gear Strive as its next DLC character.

What’s more, ArcSys also confirmed that Bridget (originally born as one of two twin boys and dressed like a girl because of Superstitious Reasons) does in fact identify as a girl.

You can see her declaration in arcade mode footage here.

EVO, or the Evolution Championship Series, wrapped up in Las Vegas over the weekend.

Dozens of the world’s best fighting game players convened on the Strip to fight it out in nine different games including Tekken 7 and Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate.

The event has been touted as the world’s biggest fighting game event and this year marked the first time gamers returned to an in-person competition and the first event under a new management team.

In 2020, the event was cancelled and last year’s iteration was completely online.

Fans were also treated to the surprise announcement that EVO 2023 will return to Japan next for an in-person tournament.

Tokyo Big Sight is expected to host a series of fighting game tournaments from 31 March to 2 April.

More details will be announced in the coming months.
